Sheepshead has slowed, back to the flats for trout and reds. Pensacola Charters

Spring Break is over and now it is time to get back on the flats and pull out the boxes of artificials! I went out recently to do a little scouting to see how the trout and redfish bite was on the flats, and was very pleased with what I found. I checked some of my honey holes that usually hold nice slot reds, and they were already producing some nice bites. The trout bite was pretty good too; I caught a lot with a variety of baits from MirrOlure’s Top Dog, which is a top water lure, as well as their suspending twitch baits like the MirrOdine 17MR and Paul Brown. I also pulled out some new ZMan’s Baits, like the 5” Paddler Z in Bad Shad; this color put some nice fish in the boat on my scouting trip.

This spring, I had a great time fishing the pass while showing my clients what the annual sheepshead run was all about. This is the only time I exclusively use live bait. I prefer artificials most of the time I go out, but I will bring live bait out for trout and redfish if I have anglers who want to try both techniques.

As a veteran captain of our area and a former US Marine, I take pride in running a professional fishing trip and providing only the best equipment in the business.

To my bass fishermen out there, now is the time to come to the gulf coast and experience some of the best inshore light tackle fishing around for trout and redfish.

 Till the next adventure.
