Not much to report the past few days besides lots of rain
and wind.
With over 3.5” of rain in the past three days, it’s been
tough to get out.
However, I did manage to get out a couple of times before the bad weather came in and the inshore bite was good quality. I’m happy to say that the sheepsheads are starting to make their appearance in the pass and in a few other places in the bay. Not only are the sheepshead showing up, the inshore red snapper bite in Pensacola Bay has been outstanding. Some big reds are still around in the bay, and this makes for some fun light tackle action.

With all the freshwater runoff from the rivers, the upper
bay trout and reds are going to be pushed down south a bit; they will still be
in the upper bay areas, just not as far north. As the water temp continues to
rise, some of the trout and reds will start to make their way back to the
sound. A lot of these fish will keep their residence in both Escambia and
Blackwater Bay but a lot will still head to the lower bay areas for the summer
months.
It’s only a few more weeks away and Spring Break will be
here and the annual sheepshead bite will be in full swing.
I’m hoping to break the 9lb –10 lb mark this year with a sheepshead. Last year we got one that was almost 9 lbs, and on light tackle spinning rods, it is a blast to be sure.

The weather is supposed to clear around Tuesday or Wednesday
this upcoming week and then I’ll be back out. I will be going to the pass to do
sheepshead drift, and also check a few of my rocky bottom areas in the bay to
see how the bottom bite is in the bay.
I am getting booked up pretty solid in March, so if you’re heading down this way and are looking for the finest inshore light tackle fun family / professional fishing trip, then you’ve come to the right place.

I’ll post again at the end of the week with a report and
some pics of the trips.
Tight Lines.
